Revision: How to teach it, learn it,

Barry Lane
Fall Workshop 1999
Barry Lane, author of After THE END, gave participants tools to encourage their students to revise writing: spades to dig deep to find the potatoes of meaning; binoculars to look at the familiar in new ways: camera to add snapshots of vivid detail that draw the reader in; questions -- especially unanswerable ones; a sharp ear to hear the inviting leads hanging in the air; songs, poems, subvertisements, parody, and wacky we-search papers that prove critical thinking isn't always serious; and most of all -- laughter.
