To model a multi-genre group writing, Tom Romano lead the participants in brainstorming problems and stresses in teaching. Then the group listed as many types of writing, from bumper stickers to epics, as possible. These were three pieces that participants wrote:

Where Does the Time Go?

It's Monday. It's early. It's time to begin.
I shower. I eat. And I'm off with the wind.
I've got little time 'fore the clients return.
It's another full week where I teach and they learn.
The day starts out slowly, as Mondays oft do,
But 'fore we all know it we eat cuz it's noon.
The sleepies sneak in for both kids and the teach
But hang on. Not too long. For the car keys we'll reach.
We head to our home and do all that we can.
And soon it is ten and I'm off to snooze land.
Before I can catch both the shut and the eye,
That damn bell goes off and from bed do I fly.
It's Tuesday, it's Wednesday, or "humpday" some say,
It's Thursday, and finally it's Friday. Oh yay.
I'm sitting at home in my lazy boy chair.
I used to go out 'fore I taught and I cared.
But now, who's got energy to head out and 'play'?
I'll need all the weekend to prep for Monday!
