Do your students often struggle while trying to comprehend challenging texts? Do they primarily comprehend at a surface level? This workshop will focus on helping students move beyond the surface of difficult texts and teaching them how to reach deeper reading levels. You will leave with effective, classroom-tested strategies that both motivate students and help promote deeper levels of reading comprehension.

Kelly Gallagher teaches high school English full-time in Anaheim, California. He has been a teacher-leader in the California Reading and Literature Project both at UCLA and UCI and is currently the co-director of the South Basin Writing Project at California State University, Long Beach. Kelly is the author of Reading Reasons: Motivational Mini-Lessons for Middle and High School and Deeper Reading: Comprehending Challenging Texts, 4-12.
