David Mura is a poet, creative nonfiction
writer, critic, playwright, and performance artist who has taught at the University
of
Minnesota, St. Olaf College, the Loft, and the University of Oregon. A Sansei
(third-generation Japanese American), Mura has
written two memoirs, two collections of poetry, and a forthcoming collection
of critical essays: Turning Japanese: Memoirs of a
Sansei and Where the Body Meets Memory: An Odyssey of Race, Sexuality,
and Identity; After We Lost Our Way; A Male Grief:
Notes on Pornography and Addiction; and The Limits of Our Vision
(forthcoming from University of Michigan Press in its Poets
on Poetry series).
Mura gives readings and speaks on the issues of race and multiculturalism throughout
the country and has received numerous
literary awards.
